Filmmaking
Are you ready to turn your fascination with film and animation into a career in the industry? Completing a program at a college, university, or institute, can start you on a successful career as an animator. Or, if you're already an animation professional, you can take courses to give you cutting-edge skills.
If you're new to animation, you have many educational options available to you. These range from certificate to bachelor's degree programs. They also vary in their focus. At some schools, programs focus on computer animation for film and TV. Such programs would teach you the principles of storyboarding, drawing, modeling, and animation. You would also learn the technical skills required by the film industry. You would learn to use the software, such as Maya, which industry animators use, as well as industry-standard computer systems like Silicon Graphics workstations. And you'd learn digital video, audio, and post-production techniques. Completing such a program can get you work as an animator for TV, advertising agencies, animation firms, or production houses.
Other programs, such as programs in media arts or multimedia, have a broader focus. Typically, you would take courses in 2d and 3d animation, as well as in video production and post-production. You might also learn about graphic design, animation for computer games, and Web technologies, including Web animation and programming. Such programs might introduce you to Maya. You might also learn about Web-oriented software like Flash and Dreamweaver. After completing a media arts program, you may eligible for an entry-level job at an animation firm, game company, advertising agency, or Web design studio.
